Sign-Up/Enrollment

How do I sign up for the new online banking?

1. Go to the CEFCU On-Line Access My Accounts box

This is located on the upper right of the cefcu.com home page.
Select Sign Up to begin the enrollment process. You'll only need to go through the enrollment process once.

2. Enroll in Online Banking—for Consumers

Screen 1

To enroll, enter the primary member information listed below. Then, click Continue, and verify your Member Name and Address are correct.

  • CEFCU Savings account number
  • Last four digits of the Social Security number
  • Date of Birth — use the mm/dd/yyyy format shown on the screen.

3. Create Login ID and Password

Screen 2

Next, you'll create your online banking Login ID and Password. Your Login ID can include letters and/or numbers only and must be between 8 and 20 characters. Your password must use both letters and numbers. Both fields are case sensitive.

CEFCU account numbers can no longer be used to access CEFCU On-Line.

4. Confirm & Sign In

Screen 3

After creating your new Login ID and password a confirmation message will appear. Enter your new information to continue.

5. Choose Your Image & Phrase

Screen 5

Your personal image & phrase are just a portion of the Authentication Credentials that enhance security within CEFCU On-Line. To choose your personal image & phrase:

  1. Select your image. You can change this image by clicking Change Image.
  2. Enter a personal phrase (Can be unrelated to your image).

6. Choose Computer Settings

Screen 5

If you are on a computer you will use frequently to access CEFCU On-Line, check I use this computer often. This feature reduces the number of security questions you'll be asked when logging in from that computer.

CEFCU On-Line may display your image and phrase when you login.
This lets you know you are accessing CEFCU's system and not a fake site set.

7. Choose Challenge Questions and Answers

Screen 6

The final step is to choose three security questions and answers. It is suggested that you choose answers without spaces and in all lower case as they are case sensitive.

Note: Write down your answers and keep them in a secure location that is not near your computer.

Login ID and Password

Are the Login ID and password case sensitive?

Yes, both are case sensitive. In addition, when setting up your Login ID, it must be between eight and 20 characters, not contain any special characters, and not have any spaces. Your password should be between eight and 16 characters, not contain any special characters, and not have any spaces. (The log-in information is case sensitive, so when using a mobile device, be sure to check your capitalization.) Once you choose your Login ID and password, you will use that information to access your accounts. You will no longer use your account number to log in.

What if I forget my password?

Click the Forgot Password button if you forget your password. A new, temporary password will be automatically sent to the email address you used to enroll in CEFCU On-Line.

The system asked me to provide a password, and now when I try to sign in,
it just asks for my Login ID. Where did the password go?

From now on when accessing CEFCU On-Line, you will first enter your Login ID, then click the Continue button. The next screen may ask you to answer a Challenge Question you set up when you registered.

If you answer your Challenge Question correctly, the next screen will display the image and personal phrase you set up as authentication credentials. You can safely enter your password if you recognize these. If the computer you are using to enroll is also one you will be frequently using to access CEFCU On-Line, check the I use this computer often box.

If these are not the credentials you remember selecting, DO NOT enter your password, and contact CEFCU. Authentication credentials help you know you are at the authentic CEFCU On-Line site.

I am having trouble signing up for CEFCU On-Line. What should I do?

Take some time to walk through the Online Banking tutorial for information on enrolling and using the new CEFCU On-line.

Authentication Credentials (Image and Personal Phrase)

How do I set up the Authentication Credentials?

These credentials are a way to help prevent account fraud and identity theft. They help you make sure that you are on CEFCU's Online Banking site, and not a fake look-a-like site. To set up the credentials:

  • Choose an image, which is what you will see every time you log in. You can change the image at any time.
  • Enter a phrase you can easily remember. Your personal phrase can be between two and 35 characters and cannot contain a hyphen, period, or exclamation mark. Because it is case sensitive, it is strongly suggested you use all lowercase letters and stay away from using spaces.
  • Click Continue to select and answer your challenge questions.

Check the I use this computer often box if the computer you are using to enroll is the one you frequently will be using to access CEFCU On-Line.

How do I choose another image?

Make sure the image you select is something easy for you to remember. If you would like to change the image offered to you, additional images are available. Click the More Images button below the image. Select from the images in a variety of categories. To select your final image, choose the select image link under the image.

How do I create a personal phrase?

You can enter any word or phrase that is two to 35 characters in length. Your personal phrase cannot contain hyphens, periods, or exclamation marks and should be something meaningful to you. Your personal phrase, although separate from your selected image, is used along with your selected image to authenticate the online banking site.

Remember to write down your login, password, image, personal phrase, and answers to security questions; keep those in a secure location that is not near your computer.

Why do I need to select the challenge questions and provide answers?

These questions are part of the overall security system designed to help prevent unauthorized users from getting access to your online banking information. Even if someone has taken your Login ID, password, and personal phrase, they may not know the answer to your secret questions. If you ever forget your Login ID, password, image, or personal phrase, you are presented with a challenge question that you must answer correctly to authenticate you on the online banking site. These questions will also be used to confirm your identity if you log in to CEFCU On-Line from a computer the online banking system doesn't recognize. If you can't answer the first challenge question correctly, you are asked one of the other questions you selected.

Remember to write down your login, password, image, personal phrase, and answers to security questions; and keep those in a secure location that is not near your computer.

I selected my image and questions, but now I want to change them. How do I do that?

After you have successfully completed enrolling in the new CEFCU On-Line, you are able to change your image, personal phrase, questions, or answers at any time. Be sure to choose an image, phrase, and questions you will remember.

To change any of the identifiers, log in to CEFCU On-Line and enter your password on the page with your image, phrase, and questions. Then click Edit Authentication Credentials and follow these instructions.

  • To change your image, click Change Image and choose a different image.
  • To change your personal phrase, click Change Phrase and type in a new phrase between two and 35 characters.
  • To change your challenge question and answer information, click Change Challenge Questions and Answers. Then choose new questions and provide answers for them. Your answers need to be between two and 35 characters.

Click Save and Continue to save any changes you have made.

Remember to write down your login, password, image, personal phrase, and answers to security questions and keep those in a secure location that is not near your computer.

How does the image and phrase provide security for me?

After entering your Login ID and clicking Continue, if the system recognizes your computer, you will be presented with your image and personal phrase, then asked to enter your Password. If the image and/or personal phrase have been changed, and you do not recognize them, contact CEFCU immediately. Unless you change them, your image and/or personal phrase will never change.

When I enter my Login ID and password, it asks me a question instead of
showing me my chosen image. Why?

This is to make sure it's really you logging in to CEFCU On-Line. The system asks a challenge question when you log in from a different computer or location.

When can I stop using the Authentication Credentials?

Once you have enrolled in CEFCU On-Line, participation in the Authentication Credentials service is mandatory to maintain the utmost in member account security.

Why is there so much to go through… the picture, all of the questions to answer?
The amount of time to sign up is lengthy.

One of the great benefits of the new CEFCU On-Line system is that it takes advantage of Multi-Factor Authentication, which helps protect you and your account. While it does increase the time to enroll or register for CEFCU On-Line, it also offers multiple levels of account security. Keeping members' accounts and information safe is a top priority for CEFCU.

When I sign on, I get a different security question than what I selected.  What should I do?

First, make sure you typed in your Login ID. Remember, they are case and space sensitive. If your Login ID was entered correctly, please go back to the home page and try again. If the problem persists, please contact CEFCU.
