Notice at Collection

Citizens Equity First Credit Union (“CEFCU”) provides this Notice at Collection (“Notice”) for Consumers who are residents of California to notify you of CEFCU’s privacy practices as required by the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended (“CCPA”). For purposes of this Notice, when we refer to “Consumers”, we mean you as a person who uses our website and accepts the use of cookies.

Categories of Personal Information Collected

CEFCU collects or has collected from Consumers in the preceding 12 months the following categories of personal information:

Identifiers. This category includes a real name, alias, postal address, unique personal identifier, online identifier, Internet Protocol address, email address, account name, social security number, driver's license number, passport number, or other similar identifiers.

Personal information described in subdivision (e) of California Civil Code Section 1798.80. This category includes a name, signature, social security number, physical characteristics or description, address, telephone number, passport number, driver’s license or state identification card number, insurance policy number, education, employment, employment history, bank account number, credit card number, debit card number, or any other financial information, medical information, or health insurance information.

Characteristics of protected classifications under California or federal law. This category includes age (40 years or older), race, color, ancestry, national origin, citizenship, religion or creed, marital status, medical condition, physical or mental disability, sex (including gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy or childbirth and related medical conditions), sexual orientation, veteran or military status, and genetic information (including familial genetic information).

Commercial information. This category includes records of personal property, products or services purchased, obtained, or considered, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies.

Internet or other electronic network activity information. This category includes browsing history, search history, and information regarding a Consumer’s interaction with an internet website, application, or advertisement.

Geolocation Data. This category includes physical location or movements.

Audio, electronic, visual, thermal, olfactory, or similar information. This category includes, for example, information collected from cameras and similar devices.

Professional or employment-related information. This category includes current or past job history.

Inferences drawn from personal information to create a profile about a Consumer reflecting a Consumer’s preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.  

Sensitive personal information. This category includes the following:

  • Personal information that reveals a Consumer’s social security, driver’s license, state identification card, or passport number.
  • Personal information that reveals a Consumer’s account log-in, financial account, debit card, or credit card number in combination with any required security or access code, password, or credentials allowing access to an account.
  • Personal information that reveals a Consumer’s precise geolocation.
  • Personal information that reveals a Consumer’s racial or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, or union membership.
  • Personal information that reveals contents of a Consumer’s mail, email, and text messages to an intended recipient other than CEFCU.
  • Personal information that reveals a Consumer’s genetic data.
  • Personal information collected and analyzed concerning a Consumer's health.
  • Personal information collected and analyzed concerning a Consumer’s sex life or sexual orientation.
  • Data related to citizenship or immigration status.

CEFCU may add to the categories of personal information it collects and the purposes for which it uses that information.  CEFCU will inform you in the event it does so.

Purposes Personal Information, Including Sensitive Personal Information, Is Collected and Used

CEFCU collects and uses personal information, including sensitive personal information, of Consumers for the following purposes:

  • To manage and present CEFCU’s website and mobile apps or other online media under CEFCU’s operation and control (collectively, the “Site”) and its contents to you including enabling your access.
  • To provide certain products, services and information you request.
  • To provide customer service.
  • To respond to your inquiries, including to investigate and address your concerns.
  • To communicate with you including providing notices and information about the Site and related services.
  • To create and administer your account(s).
  • To verify your identity.
  • To track your location so we can direct you to CEFCU’s nearest Member Center or ATM.
  • To allow you to participate in interactive features on the Site.
  • For CEFCU’s marketing and advertising purposes or joint marketing activities.
  • To share information about your transactions, experiences, credit worthiness or insurability with affiliates for their everyday business purposes.
  • To share information with affiliates or non-affiliates for their marketing purposes unless you have opted out.
  • For CEFCU’s research and development efforts.
  • For other everyday business purposes such as product development, processing transactions, contract management, IT and website administration and improvement, training, quality control, fulfillment, analytics, security, fraud prevention including investigations, corporate governance, and reporting.
  • To carry out CEFCU’s obligations and enforce CEFCU’s rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and CEFCU.
  • To ensure your information is accurate and to personalize CEFCU’s products and services.
  • For the recruiting and application process or managing the employment relationship.
  • To fulfill any other purpose for which you provide it.
  • To evaluate or conduct a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of CEFCU’s assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding, in which personal information held by CEFCU is among the assets transferred.
  • To comply with legal or regulatory obligations; respond to court orders and law enforcement requests; investigate, establish or defend allegations or legal claims.
  • For public safety purposes.
  • To report to credit bureaus.
  • As permitted or required by law.

Whether Personal Information Is Sold or Shared

CEFCU does not sell personal information of Consumers.  CEFCU does not share personal information of Consumers with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Retention of Personal Information

CEFCU retains your personal information for as long as necessary, including to provide you products and services, while you have an open account with CEFCU, or as required by applicable law or regulation. CEFCU may retain your personal information for longer if it is necessary to comply with CEFCU’s legal or reporting obligations, resolve disputes, to exercise or defend against a legal claim, etc. CEFCU may also retain your personal information in a deidentified or aggregated form so that it can no longer be associated with you.  To determine the appropriate retention period for your personal information, CEFCU considers various factors such as the amount, nature, and sensitivity of your information; the potential risk of unauthorized access, use or disclosure; the purposes for which CEFCU processes your personal information; and applicable legal requirements.  Personal information does not include certain categories of information, such as publicly available information from government records, and deidentified or aggregated Consumer information.
