Scammers are using a new EIP text to get personal information. According to the text, an EIP has been deposited, but you have to click the link to accept the payment. The link goes to a fake website that looks like the irs.gov Get My Payment site.

If you receive this text, do not follow the link. Take a screenshot and email it to phishing@irs.gov with the following information:

  • Date, time, and time zone of the message
  • Your phone number
  • Number that shows on your caller ID

Remember, the IRS or state agencies will never text requesting financial account information for an EIP deposit.
