Scammers are using the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) toll-free customer service number to try to get your personal information. The Scammers are threatening to cut off your benefits if you do not give them your Social Security number.

Remember, actual SSA employees won’t threaten you to get personal information, and they won’t promise to increase or continue your benefits in exchange for information.

If you do receive a call that looks or sounds like it’s from the SSA:

  • Hang up and call the SSA at 1.800.772.1213.
  • Report the call to the SSA Office of Inspector General at 1.800.269.0271.
